DiscoPosse Review: Professional Scrum Development with Microsoft Visual Studio 2012

scrumdevbookHot on the heels of reading The Phoenix Project, I finally got a chance to finish up reading the Professional Scrum Development with Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 from Microsoft Press. One thing that I can say for sure is that those two books make a great pairing!

As I am diving deep into DevOps and bringing collaborative, orchestrated methods into how I do things at work and at home, I found that this book was a phenomenal guide for integrating Agile methodologies and DevOps processes into your organization through the use of Microsoft tools.

One thing I have to say is that this isn’t a light read, and it isn’t mean to be. This is a detailed, deep dive book which brings you into the innermost configuration of the Microsoft Visual Studio tools, Team Foundation Server and how to map it against your Agile processes. Even better, it brings you into Agile even if you haven’t already adopted the methodology already. Richard does a great job if bringing in high level concepts followed by detailed delivery of real how-to deployment.

For anyone who is involved with application development, systems administration or anywhere in between and wants to see real step-by-step guides on implementing new and valuable processes into your teams, this is your guide. If you are just getting started, you can read the first portion of the book and then as you dive deeper and get more comfort with adopting the tools, you can then carry on with it and follow along to bring better methods and tools to your development and operations teams.
