Hi Again, HYCU!
This is my second time getting a view into the HYCU platform and team. I’ve really enjoyed previous presentations and their passion about the problem they solve is clear and inspiring. It’s even more fun knowing that HYCU is a nifty shortform for Hybrid Cloud Uptime.
Built on a Strong Foundation
HYCU is growing rapidly and has some strong kudos coming in from both customers and partners alike. Being named the Google Cloud Technology Partner of the Year in 2024 is quite an accomplishment and recognition of their platform and approach.
One reason for their successful growth is the reach of the R-Cloud platform with number of targets they have added to the coverage.
Once you take that and extend with R-Graph you have a proactive pairing where you can detect what services you are using, and potentially once you are not protecting.,
The Periodic Table of Protection
It’s humbling to see the breadth of risk we have with how many platforms and
HYCU + Dell: The 1+1=3 Opportunity
Dell has been in the data protection world for quite a while with their Data Domain and many other data protection products in theri portfolio. They also have strong partnerships with all of the cloud providers that extend the opportunity to new workloads.
Touting a 50:1 average deduplication rate shows that the IP underneath the Data Domain platform has stood the test of time, and value. Seeing the gap that could be so beautifully filled by HYCU as a partner.
The economics of Data Domain have proven out over time. While the upfront pricing used to seem almost prohibitive to a lot of mid-market companies, it worked out once you account for the cost of retention and transfer of data.
The market and applications changed with the aggressive adoption of public cloud. This was where Dell started the innovation towards cloud protection. Now that we see the economics of data storage in the cloud, it was obvious that de-duplication and network data reduction would become invaluable.
There is certainly a differentiation which got Dell and the DDVE to where they are today.
The numbers are almost overwhelming. 24 Exabytes…yes…EXAbytes. That’s telling you what the scale of success has been in adoption. I was quietly surprised by the number of mid-market and smaller enterprises using Data Domain because of the DDVE deployment option. They have also put more variety of appliance sized in the market as well since I last dug into their products.
Economy of scale of the history paired with application-aware, agentless protection is where things are about to really heat up the next opportunity.
It is clear that HYCU has an application-level intelligence within their solution that I see as a fundamental advantage. Adding DDBoost and efficiency with storage and transfer solves a signficant challenge which saves HYCU from having to develop towards it within their own platform.
I’d put my bets on the relationship between Dell and HYCU. I predict that within the next six months we will see the fruits of this. Keep your eyes on the Dell World announcements. I have a feeling there will be much more to come from this partnership.
Congratulations to both the HYCU and Dell teams on this new increased integration. I look forward to seeing the growth together. Look for a tech deep dive coming next week on the platform!
